Privacy Policy

WheyCompare is a price-comparison site for whey protein and creatine in Australia. This page explains what data we collect when you visit, how we use it, and how to opt out.

What we collect

Automatic, anonymous

When you load a page, we collect:

• The URL you visited and the URL that referred you
• Your browser type, OS, screen size, and approximate location (country/state from your IP)
• Performance metrics: how fast pages load (LCP, INP, CLS) for our own performance monitoring
• Click events on outbound retailer links (which product, which retailer, which page you came from) — this lets us measure which products are most useful

We do not collect your name, email address, payment details, or any directly identifying information automatically. We do not run user profiling or build a behavioural advertising profile.

When you contact us

If you fill in the contact form at /contact, we receive your email address and the message you wrote. We use that solely to reply. We don't add you to any mailing list.

When you click "Buy"

Outbound clicks pass through /go/<id> on our site so we can log the click before redirecting to the retailer. We store:

• A hashed version of your IP address (not the raw IP)
• A session ID stored in a first-party cookie (wc_sid), valid for 30 days, used to dedupe repeat clicks
• The user-agent string and the referring URL

We never see your activity on the retailer's site after the redirect. Whether you buy anything, what you bought, what you paid — none of that comes back to us. The retailer reports an aggregate commission to us monthly, attributed only to the cookie they set on their domain.

These services may use cookies. You can opt out via your browser settings, ad-blocker, or do-not-track preferences.

Affiliate program

WheyCompare earns commission on purchases via outbound retailer links. Full details on /disclosure. Ranking is never influenced by commission rate.

Third-party cookies (Google Analytics, PostHog, retailer affiliate cookies) are set by those services and follow their own policies.

How to opt out

• Block analytics: use an ad-blocker (uBlock Origin, Brave's built-in shields, etc.). We don't gate any functionality behind tracking.
• Don't pass through /go/: visit the retailer directly. You'll pay the same price and we won't earn a commission.
• Browser privacy settings: disable third-party cookies, send Global Privacy Control / Do Not Track headers.

Data retention

• Click logs: retained for 12 months for affiliate reconciliation, then deleted.
• Contact form submissions: retained until resolved or 24 months, whichever is sooner.
• Analytics events (GA4, PostHog): retained according to those platforms' default retention windows (GA4: 14 months, PostHog: 7 years for the project, configurable per-event).

Your rights

You can:

• Ask us what we hold on you (we likely hold nothing tied to your identity, but if you've contacted us, we have that thread)
• Ask us to delete it
• Lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner if you think we've handled your data improperly

Children

WheyCompare is not directed at children under 18. We don't knowingly collect information from minors.

Changes to this policy

We'll update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page when this policy changes. Material changes will be flagged in the site footer for at least 30 days.
